I have an interest in the women
of the western frontier.
I purchased this book many years ago,
and re-visit it every now and then.
I am fascinated by their diversity
and ability to endure.
These are some of my favorite women
of the western frontier.
Collecting cow-pies for fuel/heat.
American Indian woman
with a determined stare.
This women was the first woman in history
to ride her horse coast to coast over 4,000 miles.
A single woman showing us she can take
care of herself.
Score!
Unorthodox pose of a western woman,
showing us she's as good as any man.
Two gals fishing.
Another woman strutting her stuff.
Calamity Jane in her younger days.
On the frontier.
I just finished a book about
Cattle Kate.
She was the first woman to be lynched in the United States.
The man who wrote it did a very good job of exploratory
journalism to get to the root of a tragic incident that occurred
in the late 1800's.
She wasn't Cattle Kate.
He tells us that up front.
No spoiler here...
Mistaken identity.
Very enlightening book about women who participated in the
160 acre land-grab in the west.
It was a tough life.
That's an understatement.
I also have a fascination with the history of African Americans
in our country, and want to read this book next.
Found this gorgeous pic of an African American
woman in 1880's Wyoming.
I wonder what her life was like.
It intrigues me.
Here's Joan Baez singing a song
that reminds me of these incredible
ladies.
Thinking of you,
my friends,
this day.
Wishing you a
wonderful Wednesday,
even though you know you
are a bunch of whippersnappers!
; )
Lots of love,
~d
