Tom
(that's what they use to call him)
Antônio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim (January 25, 1927 – December 8, 1994),
also known as Tom Jobim (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈtõ ʒoˈbĩ]), was a Brazilian songwriter, composer, arranger, singer, and pianist/guitarist. He was a primary force behind the creation of the bossa nova style, and his songs have been performed by many singers and instrumentalists within Brazil and internationally.
For more info here's a link to specifics.
I haven't heard a song that he wrote
that I didn't like.
He is responsible for my love
of the samba and bossa nova.
Whenever I hear a samba/bossa nova,
I go to a different place.
Enjoy some of my favorite renditions of his songs.
(you-tube is being weird again. Click on the
"watch on youtube" link to hear the song)
Aahhhh, what great summer music.
Sea, sand, shells, cool breezes...
I listened to Sergio Mendes Brazil '66
in grade school.
This was the summer I read JD Salinger's
collection of short stories,
before entering 7th grade.
Love that book.
Learned the word 'persnickity' from one
of his stories.
Anyway, I digress.
A happy, happy Thursday to you,
and many more. ; )
Love to all you persnickity fishes out there...
xoxo d
